The Sentry Safety 1000UL & 1200UL Dual Door Panic Exit Bar Package is a complete UL Listed solution designed specifically for double-door openings that require safe, reliable emergency egress. This package combines the 1000UL Series rim-style panic exit bar for the primary (active) door with the 1200UL Series vertical rod panic exit bar for the secondary (inactive) door, creating a dependable two-door exit system for commercial, industrial, educational, and public facilities.

In dual door applications, the primary door is designed to open first, allowing the secondary door to be released when additional clearance is needed. The included 1000UL Series features a durable surface-mounted rim device with a steel strike, single-point latching, and built-in Allen key dogging for authorized hold-open capability. The 1200UL Series complements the system with top and bottom vertical rods that provide secure two-point latching on the secondary door. Both devices feature universal handing for right- or left-hand installation, can be field trimmed to fit narrower doors, and are compatible with steel, wood, composite, and framed glass doors. Designed exclusively for use with Sentry Safety Handles, this package provides a complete, code-compliant panic hardware solution for double-door applications without sacrificing security or ease of operation.

Trimming the Panic Bar to Size:

Both panic bars can be trimmed to fit smaller doors. The 1000UL Series measures 40-3/4" overall (40-1/16" excluding the latch) and can be cut down to 24" overall (23-1/4" excluding the latch). The 1200UL Series measures 40" overall and can be cut down to 25". On both models, the section beyond the push pad is hollow tubing. Simply cut the tubing to the desired length and reinstall the end cap. Neither bar is required to span the full width of the door, provided the door has a flat mounting surface.

Changing from Right- or Left-Hand Mounting:

The 1000UL Series is fully reversible by simply rotating the panic bar 180°, allowing it to be installed on either right-hand or left-hand doors. The 1200UL Series also accommodates both door handings but requires the internal spring assembly to be transferred to the opposite side. This involves removing the top assembly, relocating the spring, and reinstalling the hardware according to the installation instructions.

Latching and Mounting:

Both panic bars are surface mounted on the secure (inside) face of the door. The 1000UL Series is a rim-style device that latches into a strike mounted on the door frame. The 1200UL Series is a vertical rod device with rods extending to the top and bottom of the door. The top rod latches into a surface-mounted frame strike, while the bottom rod engages a floor keeper.

If replacing an existing door handle, it must be removed before installation. Cover plates are available to conceal the existing handle holes, and door jamb brackets can be used to cover the original latch location on the frame. Mounting bolts are included. Depending on the door material, wood screws, self-tapping metal screws, or sex bolts of the same diameter may also be used. Sex bolts provide the strongest installation by fastening through both sides of the door.

Dogging:

Both panic bars feature Allen key dogging, allowing the latch to remain retracted so the door can be opened without operating the push bar. Allen key dogging offers greater security than traditional knob dogging because a tool is required to engage or disengage the feature. Insert the supplied Allen key and turn it to hold the latch in the retracted position. Turn the key back to return the panic bar to normal operation.

Cylinder Release:

Both panic bars include an exterior cylinder for momentary outside access. A keyed-alike cylinder is available as an option for painted models, allowing multiple panic bars to operate with the same key. Otherwise, each unit is supplied with its own unique key. Turning the key provides only a momentary release of the latch and does not engage the dogging feature. Once released, the panic bar automatically returns to the locked position.

Optional Accessories (Sold Separately):

1000UL and 1200UL Series Compatibility:

These panic bars are designed to work together on double-door applications. The 1000UL Series is installed on the active door, while the 1200UL Series is installed on the inactive door. This combination is commonly used on overlapping double doors and is required when using a surface-mounted electric strike. Because the 1200UL Series secures the door with top and bottom rods, it is not compatible with an electric strike when used by itself. Pairing it with a 1000UL Series allows access control systems to release the active door while the inactive door can then be opened as needed.

Outside Door Handle with Key Release:

If outside access is required, an exterior handle must be purchased separately. Without this accessory, the doors can only be opened from the inside using the panic bars. The handle is key-lockable. Once unlocked, it operates the panic bar until it is manually locked again. Unlike spring-return lock cylinders, the key only locks or unlocks the handle and does not automatically return it to the locked position. A keyed-alike version is also available.

Surface-Mounted Electric Strike:

A surface-mounted electric strike replaces the standard mechanical strike on the 1000UL Series active door and allows remote or controlled entry. When not energized, it functions like a standard strike and securely latches the door. When activated by an access control device, the strike releases, allowing entry from the outside. Compatible devices include keypads, card readers, intercom systems, desk-mounted push buttons, remote controls, and GSM cellular receivers. An exterior pull handle and compatible access control device are also required.

Door Closer:

Door closers are available in several styles but all perform the same function by automatically closing the door after it has been opened. Since both panic bars automatically relatch when the doors close, a door closer is a recommended accessory to help ensure the doors remain securely closed and latched.

Extended Rods:

The rods supplied with the 1200UL Series are designed for standard 7-foot doors. Extended rods are available separately for 8-foot door applications.
