The Sentry Safety 4000FR & 4200FR Series Dual Door Fire-Rated Panic Exit Bar Package is a complete UL Listed exit hardware solution designed for double-door commercial openings requiring reliable emergency egress and certified fire protection. This package combines the 4000FR Series Rim Style Panic Exit Bar as the primary door device with the 4200FR Series Vertical Rod Panic Exit Bar as the secondary door device, creating a coordinated, code-compliant exit system for fire-rated applications.
In a dual-door application, the primary door is designed to open first, allowing the secondary door to operate correctly once the primary door has been engaged. The included 4000FR Series features a heavy-duty surface-mounted rim design with a single-point side latch and steel strike for secure, dependable operation. The 4200FR Series complements the system with top and bottom vertical rods that provide secure two-point latching on the secondary door, making it ideal for double-door openings without a center mullion. Together, these devices deliver smooth, coordinated operation while maintaining reliable emergency egress.
Both panic exit bars are UL Listed, 3-hour fire rated, and ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 certified, providing exceptional durability and performance for demanding commercial environments. Designed for exit-only applications, this package is ideal for schools, hospitals, warehouses, industrial facilities, office buildings, and other fire-rated openings requiring code-compliant panic hardware. Both devices feature universal handing for right- or left-hand installation, durable surface-mounted construction, exterior cylinder locks for authorized keyed access, and compatibility exclusively with Sentry Safety exterior handles (sold separately). Available in painted or stainless steel finishes, the 4000FR & 4200FR Series package delivers a dependable fire-rated solution for coordinated dual-door emergency exits.

Fire Rated:
Both the Sentry Safety 4000FR and 4200FR Series Panic Exit Bars are UL Listed and have passed a 3-hour fire resistance test for use on fire-rated openings. Both series also meet ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 standards for panic exit hardware, the highest performance rating established by ANSI/BHMA. These devices are tested to meet strict requirements for durability, safety, and performance, providing reliable operation in demanding commercial, institutional, and industrial applications.
Trimming the Panic Bar to Size:
Both panic bars are supplied with a total length of 40". They do not need to span the entire width of the door, provided there is a flat mounting surface, allowing them to be installed on doors wider than 40". If shortening is required, the hollow tubing beyond the push bar can be cut to the desired length and the included end cap installed. Both the 4000FR and 4200FR Series can be trimmed down to 30".
Changing from Right- or Left-Hand Mounting:
Both panic bars are field reversible. To change the handing, remove the top section by removing the four screws. Unscrew the flathead screw located below the spring to disengage the top assembly. Remove the spring, relocate it to the opposite side, tighten it into place, and reinstall the flathead screw to secure the top assembly. Once completed, the panic bar is ready for installation on the opposite hand.
Latching and Mounting:
Both the 4000FR and 4200FR Series are surface-mounted panic exit bars installed on the secure (inside) face of the door. The primary difference between the two models is how they secure the door:
- 4000FR Series: This is a rim-style panic exit bar with a single-point latch that engages a strike mounted on the door frame behind the closed door.
- 4200FR Series: This is a vertical rod panic exit bar with top and bottom latching points. The rods extend to the top and bottom of the door, securing into strikes mounted at the top and bottom of the door frame.
If the door has an existing handle, it must be removed before installation. Cover caps are available to conceal the holes left behind after removing the handle, and door jamb brackets are available to cover the original latch location on the frame. Mounting bolts are included; however, depending on the door material, you may choose to use wood screws, self-tapping metal screws, or sex bolts. Sex bolts fasten through both sides of the door, providing the strongest installation.
Cylinder Release:
Both panic bars include an exterior cylinder that provides momentary access from the outside. The included cylinders are supplied with unique keys unless a keyed-alike option is selected. Turning the key momentarily releases the latch but does not engage the dogging feature. Once the key is released, the panic bar automatically returns to the locked position.
Optional Accessories (Sold Separately):
4000FR & 4200FR Series Compatibility
The 4000FR and 4200FR Series are designed to work together on dual-door applications. The 4200FR Series secures one door to the frame using its top and bottom vertical rods, while the 4000FR Series secures the second door to the first door. This configuration is ideal for overlapping double doors and allows both doors to open when the 4200FR Series push bar is operated.
Outside Door Handle with Key Release
If outside access is required, an exterior handle must be purchased separately. Otherwise, the door can only be opened from the inside using the panic bar. The handle is key-lockable and provides a non-momentary release. Once unlocked, it must be manually relocked to secure the door again. The key does not disengage the panic bar directly; it locks or unlocks the handle, which then operates the panic bar. A keyed-alike option is also available.
